UPDATED 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Predictions

We are approaching the half-way point in the 2009 NASCAR Race for The Chase, and there is no clear top twelve in the points standings. It's fair to say that a handful of drivers currently in the top 12 will be there when The Chase kicks in, but no one is actually running away from the field.
It doesn't really matter where a driver finishes in the top 12, as long as he is in there, and has some wins in the first 26 races. It's not how many points a driver accumulates prior to The Chase, it's the driver with the most wins that will be in first-place for the last ten races of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season.
With that in mind, I predict that Jeff Gordon will prevail at Lowe's Motor Speedway this weekend, and will win the Coca-Cola 600 to add 10 more Chase points to his total. However, I also predict that Kyle Busch will have the most wins prior to The Chase, and will be in first-place when The Chase gets underway.
My original pick for the 2009 Sprint Cup champion was Carl Edwards. Carl is hanging in there, but just barely. It wasn't a bad pick, but Edwards needs to win a few races soon.
The two biggest disappointments in my 2009 NASCAR Predictions, by George are David Ragan and Dale Earnhardt Jr. While we can't count Dale Earnhardt Jr out of The Chase, his performances to date have not been Chase material. David Ragan has folded his sail and is drifting along in 38th-place with The Chase nothing more than a dream for him.
All in all, other than David Ragan, none of my picks are any worse off than Kevin Harvick, who is currently 21st in points. I know now that I should have given the old pro, Tony Stewart, more credit based on his abilities and experience, rather than count him out as a first season player.
Now is when the points and wins start to become even more important, and there's no better place to start the frenzy than the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway!
